Commemorative Giving the Arboretum

Honor a loved one with a commemorative tree in the Arboretum.

Honor a loved one with a commemorative tree in the Arboretum.

The Arboretum Foundation offers a number of commemorative giving opportunities designed to celebrate a loved one or a special friend while providing support for Washington Park Arboretum. Tribute gifts of any amount are welcomed by the Foundation and provide much-needed financial support to sustain this spectacular 230-acre greenspace in the heart of Seattle.

Tribute and Memorial Gifts

Gifts of any amount can be made in honor or memory of an individual or group. Tribute gifts are a popular way to make a thoughtful gift recognizing a friend or family member while demonstrating support for the Arboretum. In response to each gift, a personalized card is sent to the honoree or his or her family, notifying them of the gift. To make a tribute gift, call 206-325-4510, or make a secure online gift here.

Commemorative Trees

In late 2007, the Arboretum Foundation was pleased to bring back a beloved giving opportunity—the Commemorative Tree Program. This is a wonderful way to honor a colleague, friend, or loved one while supporting Washington Park Arboretum. Such a lasting, living gift is ideal for celebrating a birth, a new marriage, or the retirement of a long-time co-worker. There are currently 27 hand-chosen trees and shrubs available for dedication. Among them are a lovely Japanese maple ‘Butterfly’ near the Woodland Garden and a rare Carrierea calycina, whose creamy-white flowers appear in June. Commemorative trees are available for a donation of $1,000 each. For more information or a list of available trees, please contact our Campaign and Major Gifts Coordinator Jeff Boyer at 206-325-4510 or jboyer@arboretumfoundation.org.

In keeping with the Olmsted heritage of the Arboretum, we offer the iconic “World’s Fair Bench.”

Commemorative Benches

With a gift of $5,500, you may dedicate a bench in Washington Park Arboretum to an individual or group. In accordance with the Arboretum’s Master Plan, bench sites are predetermined and sold on a first-come, first-served basis. In keeping with the Olmsted heritage of the Arboretum, the Foundation offers the “World’s Fair Bench,” which is six-feet long with a heavy cast-iron frame and wood slats for seat and back. A small brass plaque will be inscribed with your tribute and mounted on the bench seatback. For more information, please contact Jeff Boyer at 206-325-4510 or jboyer@arboretumfoundation.org.

Gift Recognition and Dedication

Commemorative tree and bench gifts are recognized in a memorial book at the reception desk at the Graham Visitors Center. A dedication page with a map showing the location of each tribute is available for family and visitors to reference.
