The Arboretum Foundation,
a non-profit membership organization, has provided stewardship for
Washington Park Arboretum since 1935.
The Foundation manages
membership and volunteer programs, raises funds and provides public
information services for the Arboretum. Events and programs include
the annual Preview Gala at the Northwest Flower & Garden Show,
plant sales and a volunteer-managed greenhouse.
The Foundation raises and provides funds for essential Arboretum operations and activities including arboriculture, maintenance, seasonal gardeners, education and collection restoration. Special fundraising projects have supported the teahouse at the Japanese Garden, the Graham Visitors Center, pond restoration and more.
As a fundraising organization, the Arboretum Foundation accepts unrestricted gifts, planned gifts and donations targeted to particular areas, such as maintenance or education, and operates a major gifts club, the Arbor Circle. Financial contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
The Arboretum Foundation
is currently developing a major gifts campaign to support implementation
of the Arboretum Anew, the 20-year plan to comprehensively restore and enhance
the Arboretum.
Washington Park Arboretum is a 230-acre
living museum of woody plants, with internationally renowned collections
of oaks, conifers, camellias, Japanese maples, hollies and other
plants from the Pacific Northwest and nearly every temperate region
of the world.
The Arboretum is managed
cooperatively by University
of Washington Botanic Gardens and Seattle
Parks and Recreation, with support from the Arboretum Foundation.
