Raissance of a Flower, 1975
Mark Tobey Color Lithograph in Museum Quality Frame
Lithograph in colors, on woven paper, with full margins
25 1/5 × 19 1/2 inches
Signed by artist
Opening Night Party’s theme of “Flower Power” is exquisitely represented by Mark Tobey (1890–1976), a giant of the famed Northwest School of art. His beautiful Raissance of a Flower, from 1975, banishes the gloom from any Seattle winter’s day. This rare-to-the-market print features Tobey’s signature “white writing” treatment—a dense and abstract mode of artistic expression inspired by the artist’s international travels, Eastern religion, Arabic calligraphy, classical music, and early Abstract Expressionism. Tobey’s unique visual language of all-over painting and gestural abstraction reveals his intention to represent the mystical through art.
